Ingredients

  • 2 oz Vodka Use good-quality vodka
  • 1 oz Fresh lemon juice Always freshly squeezed
  • ¾ oz Simple syrup Adjust sweetness to taste
  • ½ oz Triple sec Optional but adds citrus depth
  • 1 tbsp Sugar For the glass rim
  • 1 slice Lemon wheel For garnish
  • Ice As needed For shaking

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring shot glass
  • Martini glass
  • Small plate (for sugar rim)
  • Strainer
  • Even a mason jar can work as a shaker if you don’t have one.

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Glass
  1. First, I run a lemon wedge along the rim of a martini glass.
  2. Then I dip it into sugar.
  3. This creates that classic sweet rim that balances the tart drink.
Step 2: Add Ingredients to the Shaker
  1. Into the shaker I add:
  2. vodka
  3. fresh lemon juice
  4. simple syrup
  5. triple sec
  6. Then I fill the shaker halfway with ice.
Step 3: Shake Well
  1. I shake the mixture for about 15 seconds.
  2. The shaker becomes very cold in your hands, which means the drink is properly chilled.
Step 4: Strain Into the Glass
  1. Next I strain the cocktail into the prepared martini glass.
  2. The drink should look smooth and slightly cloudy from the lemon juice.
Step 5: Garnish
  1. Finally, I add a thin lemon wheel on the rim.
  2. Simple, elegant, and refreshing.

Notes

Using bottled lemon juice

It reduces the fresh citrus flavor.

Not chilling the drink enough

Proper shaking creates a smoother cocktail.

Too much syrup

Over-sweetening masks the bright lemon flavor.
