Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce Adds savory depth
  • 1 tbsp Rice vinegar Bright acidity
  • 1 tbsp Chili garlic sauce Main source of heat
  • 1 tsp Fresh ginger Finely grated
  • 1 tsp Garlic Minced
  • 1 tsp Brown sugar Balances spice
  • ½ tsp Sesame oil Nutty aroma
  • 1 tbsp Water Adjust consistency
  • ½ tsp Red chili flakes Optional extra heat

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Mixing spoon or whisk
  • Measuring spoons
  • Garlic press or knife
  • Because the sauce cooks quickly, a small pan works best.

Method

Step 1: Combine the Base Ingredients
  1. In a small saucepan I add:
  2. soy sauce
  3. rice vinegar
  4. chili garlic sauce
  5. brown sugar
  6. I stir the mixture gently over medium heat.
Step 2: Add Aromatics
  1. Next I add the minced garlic and grated ginger.
  2. As the mixture warms up, the kitchen starts filling with that spicy, savory aroma.
Step 3: Adjust Consistency
  1. I add a tablespoon of water and stir again.
  2. This helps thin the sauce slightly, making it perfect for dipping.
Step 4: Finish with Sesame Oil
  1. Finally, I drizzle in sesame oil and stir one last time.
  2. The sauce should look slightly glossy and smooth.
  3. After about 5 minutes, it’s ready.

Notes

Use fresh garlic and ginger

Fresh aromatics make a noticeable difference.

Taste before serving

Some chili sauces vary in heat level.

Let the sauce cool slightly

Cooling helps the flavors blend.
